CybARverse: Digital literate in VET by cybersecurity training with immersive technologies

CybARverse is an Erasmus+ co-funded project which supports IT as well as non-IT teachers’ and trainers’ digital skills development, through the use of immersive technologies. The focus of this project is to train our target group on how to recognize and react correctly to cyberattacks. It promotes cyber security awareness, the implementation of the Digital Education Action Plan (Actions 5 and 7) as well as national agendas, and contributes to a more digital, greener and more inclusive teaching and learning. By the end of this program, at least 80 trainers and teachers, from the four partner countries, will be qualified.

In 2024, cyber attacks have continued to rise dramatically, with a 30% year-over-year increase in global incidents. Organizations are now facing an average of 1,636 attacks per week. The education and research sector is particularly hard-hit, experiencing a 53% increase in attacks, making it the most targeted industry globally. Additionally, ransomware remains a significant threat, with public extortion incidents rising by 13% compared to the previous year, particularly impacting sectors like manufacturing, healthcare, and communications (Parachute) (SourceSecurity).

This relentless surge in cyber threats highlights the growing sophistication of attackers who are increasingly leveraging advanced techniques such as AI and machine learning (CXO Insight Middle East). As cyber threats evolve, it’s crucial for organizations to adopt robust, multi-layered security strategies to mitigate these risks.
